Last night Graig and I went to a class about the basics of taking care of a newborn. It was good to reiterate some of the things we think we know about taking care of a baby. I'm sure it will be different once the baby is born. The highlight of the class by far was watching Graig "change" a diaper. He took off the old diaper, picked the baby up, and then placed the baby on the new diaper. It was cracking me up. I asked him if he thinks it's easier to move a baby or a diaper. :) But after one attempt of this I am sure he would figure it out.
Here is Graig's perspective:
There were many important things I learned, such as you can't leave your child in a car seat for the whole day. Also, you need to interact with your child. These are key things for my development as a parent.
Some things in the class were less important, such as learning to swaddle a baby and understanding the non-verbal communication signs the baby is displaying. If a baby gets over-stimulated, it won't be able to focus on an object and likely just wants to be left alone. If you keep trying to play with the baby, they will likely start crying...a lot. When Twinkle gets over-stimulated, she just bites me. If baby starts to eat your sleeve or shirt, it might be hungry.
One of the things I am most looking forward to, and is also great for the baby, is for me to lay on the couch with the baby on my chest. I can hold the remote control, watch whatever I want and not have to get up to do work, all in the name of taking care of the baby.
